Under 13 away day joy
Sunday 11th October
Under 13's 3 - 2 Burley
Sutton were dissapointed after last weeks loss to local rivals Silsden and were looking to get back to winning ways. Both teams looked strong in the first few minutes and both had chances to go ahead before Suttons Charlie Rhodes put the yellows ahead with an excellent strike that gave the Burley keeper no chance.
Sutton were enjoying the majority of the play
when a refereeing error saw Burley awarded a penalty!! The Sutton supporters were not happy as the penalty had been awarded for a back pass, which should not have been given in the first place as it was an attempted clearance that had spun of the top of the defenders boot and gone backwards to the goalkeeper, not delibarate at all. The ref realised his mistake, changed his mind and his decision was an indirect free kick. Sutton defended well and the free kick was successfully cleared.
Both teams continued to play good neat football and chances were created by both teams.
Burley were becoming the stronger team in the 5 mins before half time and they made this pay with a well taken equaliser.
The second half saw Burley continue to press forward and this resulted in them going ahead within 5 minutes of the restart.
Sutton responded well and again became the team enjoying most of the posession. Midway through the second half Sutton were pressing well with some good teamwork down both wings , Jordan Yearwood showing some good touches in his first game of the season, linked up well with striker Jacko and caused panick in the area and the defender brought down Jacko giving Sutton a penalty kick.
Up stepped team captain, Sam Birks to smash home with an excellent strike to level the scores again.
The final 15 minutes was great entertainment with Sutton producing some of their best play of the season so far, all the team putting in the extra effort asked for from manager Craig, the subs used by Sutton came on and both got involved in helping Sutton push on for the winner. With 5 minutes left the yellows were on the attack, great link up play from midfield to forwards saw the ball played square to Sam Birks who smashed a screamer into the top right corner sealing the win for Sutton who managed to hold steady at the back for the last few minutes.
This was a great team effort that saw Sutton move into 2nd place and hopefully we can keep this sort of performance going now and close in on leaders Eccleshill.
