Under 10's A Team finish the season unbeaten
The Under 10's A team played their last match on friday and remain unbeaten in the top tier of the craven league as well as all the qualifying games.
In a winner takes all match against Bingley A the boys were up against it in the first 10 minutes. However, against the run of play Sutton opened the scoring when Ben Darkins volleyed home from a Sam Thornton flick on. This seemed to settle the boys as they grew more and more into the match. Just before half time Bingley equalised with a looping effort that gave Elliott Wilson in nets no chance. The second half was very even with both teams attacking. Bingley took the lead with a neat finish from their striker. Minutes later Sutton equalised when Joel Livock went charging down the left flank and passed the ball to the far post cutting out the Bingley defense, where Ben Darkins was on hand to side foot it into the far corner of the goal. At 2-2 both teams defended well with the Sutton keeper, Elliott Wilson, and defenders, Oliver Grundy, Jonno Day, and Ciaran Crabtree, throwing themselves in front of the ball to to keep the score down. With just two minutes to go Ben turned two defenders and volleyed the ball at the Bingley net only for the keeper to tip it onto the cross bar. It was a great performance from all of the boys who despite remaining unbeaten lost the league by one point. Parents man of the match went to Ben Darkins and Managers man of the match went to Sam Thornton.
The boys should be proud of their season. To remain unbeaten in the top tier of the league is a fantastic achievement. Including the qualifiers the team played 15 matches winning 11 and drawing 4. The team scored 52 goals in the process and conceeded just 12. Top scorer for the season was midfielder Ben Darkins who scored 22 goals.
Team: Elliott Wilson, John Greenwood, Oliver Grundy, Jonno Day, Ciaran Crabtree, Joel Livock, Ben Darkins, Sam Thornton, Stanley Carr.
Congratulations to everyone involved.
