Dads tournament 2009 - see who got a soaking??
The Dads tournament took place in the park last Saturday (27th June). What a scorcher.
5 teams took part again, playing in a league format. There was a lack of goals again as the dad's seemed to be more suited to playing to the rugby league rules with the ball going over the wall more often than it went in the goals.
The board shows the match scores with the 'Champions' team being the first ones to be knocked out after failing to win any games (probably because Craig and me were in that team
).
The semi finals were also close affairs although still lacking in goals and the first semi resulted in the Rovers beating the Stars 1 - 0 which meant we were going to have out usual 'Captain' playing in the final again.
Second semi saw Belly Boys beat OAP's 2 - 1
So the 'Captain' (Andy Steel) saw his Rovers team into the final against Belly Boys.
Again we had little in the way of goals but with the weather being so hot the dads were always going to struggle to keep going for the full 10 minutes of each game.
The final was won by Rovers who managed to squeeze the only goal past the Belly Boys keeper giving 'Mr Steel' his usual win.
The winning team received their trophy from Simon and there was a surprise in store for Andy as he was quickly 'carried' to the nearby pond and thrown in (don't miss the pictures in the gallery and video).
All players appreciated the performance of the referee who took charge of all 13 games in that heat.
Thanks must go again to Allan, Phil & Paul who had the barbeque going all day with the delicious bacon butties, burgers and hotdogs. Also Judith & Aimee were kept busy with the drinks and sweets etc.
Another great day.... see you again at next years.
