PostHeaderIcon Edge of the seat stuff from Under 9's

Sunday 18th October

Game four of the season.

What can i say. Talk about edge of the seat football. All those watching were entertained for 60 mins with some great football from both teams.

The game kicked off with Sutton playing down hill in the first half.

There was so much going on that i just cannot pick out everything. The game moved at a cracking pace. A pace even those parents watching who play football would not keep up with.

We used the slope to our advantage and took the lead with a well worked goal from WILLIAM cutting in from the left hand side and slotting the ball home mid way through the first half.

Not too later WILLIAM and JOE WHITLOCK worked well together for WILLIAM to get his second of the game.

The game should have been made safe in the first half with several mazy runs from JOE W but several half chances went begging. Due to the slope the ball ran on and on.

Idle got a goal back with some neat football cutting in from the right and slotting the ball home from just outside the box.

Half time Idle 1 v Sutton 2

The second half was as fast as the first and this time the boot was on the other foot and Idle went close on a number of occasions. LOUIS did well as did the defence and kept us in the game.

The slope was taking its toll on the legs and Idle finally got the break through they were looking for. A loose ball just outside the box was poked into the net from close range.

The last ten minutes were unbearable, both sides came close, JOE WHITLOCK once again working very hard nipped in on a couple of occasions but was unlucky not to score.

The last 15 seconds and we could have got all three points SAM made an amazing run from the left. He cut across the front of the box, was pushed wide by the keeper ( literally .) He then pulled the ball back across the front of the goal
where several people had a stab at the ball, the defenders missed it, the keeper missed it and the JOE DEARNLEY`S last touch saw the ball dribble over the line wide of the far post.

The whistle blew then everyone began to breath once more.

What a game to watch.

Final Score 2 - 2

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

JOE WHITLOCK

11th October 2009

Sutton v Otley

We knew this was going to be a close encounter and we were not disappointed.

The game started as expected! (FAST)

It was end to end stuff and only a matter of time before someone was going to score.

Fortunately it was Sutton with a contender for Goal of the season. JOSH LENG once again in a defensive roll ran onto a ball just over the half way line and unleashed what can only be described as a ROCKET.

The ball headed straight for the top right corner. The Otley keeper made a fine attempt to stop it, getting both hands on it but the shear power was enough for the net to bulge. JOSH then proceeded to run the full length of the pitch to roll in the mud of our own goal.

Half time 1 - 0 Sutton.

The second half did not disappoint either. Only some brave defending from both HARRY`S AND JOSH LENG and brave keeping from LOUIS kept us in the game.

Midfield was packed at times and hard work from DAISY, JOSH WALKER, ETHAN and JORDAN kept the contest close.

Up front JOE WHITLOCK, JOE DEARNLY, and WILLIAM worked tirelessly and were all unlucky not to get on the score sheet.

Credit also has to go to Otley they all worked hard and were a difficult team to play against.

Player of the Week: LOUIS HORSFIELD

Final Score 1 - 0

PostHeaderIcon Under 9's enjoy their new home

The sun was once again shining on Sutton U9
First home game of the season on a new pitch at Glusburn saw another great display from our future professionals.
The first five minutes were a little frustrating as we want a goal behind.
All the hard work had been done by JOE DEARLEY

PostHeaderIcon Under 9's hit 7

Sunday the 27th September saw U9`s first game back after the summer.

Sutton kicked off playing down hill, it took a few minutes we but soon began to find our feet.

We managed to hold their attack off and finally took the lead after about 10 mins. With a goal from Tom. Followed up by a second from Joe Dearnley.
After what seemed like 10 consequtive corners which the home team fought hard to defend the whistle blew which saw the rascals go into the half time break with a 2 - 0 lead.
The second half saw a fine free kick tipped over the bar from Louis who once again had a fine game and was unlucky to have let the goal in having it roll between his legs.
Defence was once again strong with the ever present Harry Barker captaining the side holding firm.
A number of players played out of position notibly Josh Leng who put in a fantastic performance and was unlucky not to get a couple of goals himself.
Fantastic individual performances was once again the common factor with all the players who put in a very good TEAM performance.

The tireless William recieved the player of the week award.

With Joe Whitlock providing some great crosses a further four goals from Tom and one from Joe Dearnley saw the Rascals win 7 - 1

Well done to all.
